What is the Packerland Amateur Skywarn Society?

PASS is an IRS 501(c)3 organization that operates the nets that collect reports of severe weather from spotters associated with the Green Bay Weather Forecast Office of the National Weather Service (WFO GRB). PASS consists of a board of directors of at least 8 members, with additional directors serving in advisory positions.

PASS is not a standard Amateur Radio club, although it grew out of such a club (The North East Wisconsin Radio League). PASS owns and operates two Amateur Radio repeater systems, the 145.11 in Wabeno, and the 147.27 in Green Bay. These repeaters are linked together to aid in the collection of severe weather reports from county liaison operators. They are also "open" repeaters, meaning that they are available for general Amateur Radio use when our weather nets are not in operation.

We also work with other organizations, including public service-minded Amateur Radio clubs, ARES/RACES groups and any other bona-fide Amateur Radio club or public service organization. Some facilities owned by other Amateur Radio organizations in Green Bay, Wausau, and Chilton. We are very thankful for these clubs, and their generous service.

As part of its general mission, PASS is also responsible for staffing and maintaining the Amateur Radio station at the National Weather Service's Green Bay Weather Forecast Office. Our role is not to manage every single aspect of weather spotting activities in North East Wisconsin. Rather, we manage the "final link" in the chain of weather net participants, and act as a liaison organization between the National Weather Service's Green Bay office and the Amateur Radio weather spotting groups.
